It is an ANSI/ISO standard, fully object-oriented and interfaces with many third-party applications. It has support for templates and generic programming, massive reusability using templates (‘write once’) and support for legacy C applications.

In this book we bring C++ to the next level by applying it to the design and implementation of classes, libraries and applications for option and derivative pricing models. We employ modern software engineering techniques to produce industrial-strength applications: -

About the Author
Daniel Duffy works for Datasim, an Amsterdam-based trainer and software developer (www.datasim-component.com, www.datasim.nl). He has been working in IT since 1979 and with object-oriented technology since 1987. He received his MSc and PhD theses (in numerical analysis) from Trinity College, Dublin. His current interests are in the modelling of financial instruments using numerical methods (for example, finite difference method) and C++. He can be contacted at dduffy@datasim.nl

Utter shambles

The code is a real mess. Source files are missing, class member variables not defined, calls made to misspelled functions, basic syntax errors. Here are a few of the problems I have run into:
- Missing Source Files:: BVPmechanisms.hpp. So files like BVPSOlver.cpp can't compile
- Undefined members variables: AssocArray::contents. Can't build without it
- Basic syntax errors: (if ass2 == this). Should be if(ass2 == this)
- Incorrect function calls: standardDeviation(). Should be standardDeviation(x)

Aside from all the kindergarten errors, the author over uses templates to such an extent that simple routines are hopelessly obfuscated.

I think he built it on an old version of Visual C++. This is because the code fails to build on modern compilers with tighter error checking.

I have no idea why the other guys love this book so much, they must never have tried to build any of the examples in it ... which is weird because the whole reason I bought the book was to begin building a library of financial tools.

While I am somewhat rusty with C++, the author did a very nice job or bringing me along slowly. My motivation in buying this book was to learn more about instrument pricing, then programming. So in either case, I rate the book very high. I would highly recommend this to anyone on the path of becoming a Quant.

About the Author
Keith Hayes enjoyed a successful career as a journalist and broadcaster, working at leading news organizations CBC, BBC, CNBC, PBS, and Reuters. He was Head of News at CJOR, a Canadian radio station in Vancouver, before joining BBC news in Northern Ireland. He led a business news unit at Reuters, which involved being bureau chief and London anchor for the American daily coast-to-coast business television programs Morning & Nightly Business Reports, ending his broadcast career at CNBC in London. While at Reuters, he designed and implemented, for The Reuters Foundation, numerous business-news training courses for overseas journalists. He subsequently helped to develop television stations in Russia and Kosovo, while running journalists' training courses in Hong Kong, India, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia, Bosnia, Lithuania, Latvia, Kosovo, Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Jordan, as well as London. He is a partner in First Freedom Distribution, which gathers news video footage for global distribution and is a part time senior lecturer in journalism in London. He has written numerous training manuals for young journalists and reporters working in transitional economies as well as a book on business reporting for television. He is married with a daughter and two grandchildren and is a member of London's Travellers Club.

I liked the concept of this book. It explores just how fragile our bonds and our sanity can be when deliberately manipulated by a calculating interloper. The book looks at the dark side of human nature and the many ambiguous motives that people can have. The concept is interesting, and the writing was good, but for me, there was still something missing. I did not like the character of Cass well enough to root for her.

This is a powerful, well written and disturbing read. Ellie Black, a glamorous novelist, moves into a small close knit rural community. She is quickly accepted by the group and involved in local events and fund raising activities. Everyone seems to like Ellie, except Dan's wife who narrates part of the book. Cassandra dislikes Ellie on sight and very soon finds her own life and place in local society is being insidiously undermined. Is it all in her head or is something sinister going on? Dan thinks she's losing the plot and says so.

If you have ever been in a situation where you know you've had a conversation with someone and yet they flatly deny it took place, or where you know you have not received a certain message even though everyone else has, or where you're told you're imagining undercurrents or insinuations then this book will send shivers down your spine. Reminiscent of the 1944 film `Gaslight', this novel explores the borders between sanity and madness and also the nature of reality. I found it an uncomfortable yet gripping read.

I found the characters well drawn and convincing. Cassandra herself who does her best to deal with an increasingly slippery and uncomfortable situation, her daughter Laura and her husband Dan who at times appears weak and easily led. I liked the way the interactions between the friends was portrayed with people rallying round to support Cassandra without really understanding what the situation really entailed.

This is a frightening and powerful novel and it shows how it is all too easy to upset a person's equilibrium and to make them question what they perceive as reality.

Betwixt and Between

Betwixt and between is actually how I felt reading this novel. It started off as a fun mystery and then turned into a horror story, not my thing. I had difficulty reading the entire novel, it just did not interest me.

The novel is set in a small English hamlet, off the beaten track, a place where most people go for the summer. Cassandra and her husband, Dan, live a good life. He leaves every morning for his work in the city on the early train. Cass has turned an interest of plants into a business, where she designs, develops and plants other people's gardens. They have a daughter in college and all seems right with the world until, Ellie, a young, beautiful writer moves into their neighborhood. Then life comes crashing down for Cass. She misses appointments and group meets because she was never told about them. Gossip about her becomes rampant, her husband, Dan, seems more remote and her daughter starts to wonder what is wrong with her mother.

Needless to say, this all has something to do with Ellie. We are not sure what the issue is, does Ellie want Cass's husband, is Ellie a dangerous lunatic or is Cass the crazy one? These are all questions that have no answers until the last few chapters. Surprised, maybe, but it seemed a long waltz to the end.

This reading and listening program is intended for intermediate Spanish level. Most of the vocabulary has been carefully selected to match vocabulary selections and grammar tenses appropriate of introductory Spanish textbooks. An easy reading Spanish story is enhanced with the listening in the audio book version. Please note that this book will not be as effective if only reading it. Its effectiveness results from the simultaneous combination of Spanish reading and listening. The cognitive process of assimilating and comprehending the language is enhanced when the audio is played while the student reads. Very effective for new Spanish learners as well as for heritage learners that are familiar with words but don't know how to write Spanish.

The book has QR codes that can be scanned using a tablet or phone to play the audio book. You may also access the links that will take you to the audio and you will be able to play it in a computer. The objective is that you can read the story simultaneously. In case you are not familiar with the scanning of QR codes, the book is also available as an audio book in Audible, facilitating the reading while listening.

�On this volume, vocabulary of parts of a house, food, clothing, is added. Students will be exposed to new vocabulary that is never used in traditional textbooks. As in the first volume, being the main character a student from the United States experiencing Spain for the first time, the reader will keep getting identified with the difficulties and situations the character experiences. The main grammatical structures that are used in volume 2 include: preterit, imperfect, reflexive verbs, direct and indirect objects as an extensive use of double object pronouns.

These are the different sections:

1) �A prepararse! How much do you know about this context?
2) �A leer! Reading while simultaneous listening to the audiobook.
3) Personal Glossary: Readers look up unfamiliar words and write the meaning in their personal glossary.
4) �A analizar! Students practice the vocabulary as well as discuss ideas in the book. Check for understanding. Discuss cultural points.

The total audio book length is one hour and 45 minutes.
It is advised to do a first listening/reading for the first time. Next, when repeating the content you can stop in each chapter. Each chapter has individual audio options. A helpful option to improve pronunciation is to listen while reading aloud.

This book offers good practice to review content at the end of the Novice level, as well as for the start of a new semester or school year of an intermediate Spanish level.

About the Author
Mercedes Meier has taught Spanish as a Foreign Language and for Native speakers for the past 12 years. She holds a Doctorate in Linguistics applied to the Teaching of Spanish Language from the University of Salamanca in Spain. She is a National Board Certified Spanish Teacher (K-12) and was nominated Teacher of the Year in Lee County Public Schools (FL) in 2004. She taught for the Miami Dade County Public Schools. Later, she became an instructor for Coastal Carolina Community College in North Carolina where she received the Educator of the Year award (Humanities Department) in 2013. She currently teaches Spanish at Miami Dade College in Florida. She enjoys presenting at language conferences. She has presented at major national conferences having received several distinctions. When not teaching, she loves to travel, enjoys the outdoors, film, video production and writing.

En este segundo libro de la serie El Camino de Santiago, la autora contin�a present�ndonos aventuras amenas e interesantes que motivan a una lectura realmente con sentido. Las descripciones de los sitios mencionados a lo largo de la traves�a se ven complementadas con im�genes que despiertan a�n m�s la curiosidad de proseguir .
Como lectora , me sumerg� con avidez en el contexto de aquel viaje por las regiones de Espa�a, para despu�s encontrarme al final con una serie de ejercicios gramaticales , an�lisis y reflexiones conducentes a los objetivos de aprendizaje oral y escrito del idioma Espa�ol. Cabe mencionar que la sencillez del lenguaje utilizado en la narrativa, y el apoyo adicional que brinda la autora con la opci�n de audio , reforzar�n en el alumno la comprensi�n de los contenidos y por tanto la satisfacci�n personal por las metas alcanzadas. Definitivamente me encantar�a que mis alumnos contaran con un material tan bien pensado como �ste. Ojal� pronto tengamos el tercer volumen!!

Good practice for high school Spanish students

This is a good book for learning both culture and Spanish at the same time. The author does a good job with common errors that students could make so they won't embarrass themselves. The story ends in Leon, about 150 miles from Santiago de Compostela, so I wouldn't be surprised if the author writes a 3rd book. The audio is read at a slow pace so students should easily understand it.

This part is more for Spanish teachers. My class was all girls. They all stated they would have felt uncomfortable reading a certain part of the book discussing Jenna's "time of the month" if there had been boys in the class. Pre-reading that section beforehand is probably best to determine how to approach that section with your class.

Characters do drink wine in the book. There is discussion about the best signs of the Zodiac in case either would be a problem in your school.

Maravilloso! El volumen 2 es para nivel intermedio de espa�ol, es la continuaci�n de las aventuras de Jenna, tambi�n es muy divertido y entretenido. Alli pude reconocer verbos en pret�rito e imperfecto, verbos reflexivos, objeto directo e indirecto y por supuesto mas vocabulario nuevo. Este libro es de una riqueza invaluable, ya que se aprende del Camino de Santiago, como prepararse para el viaje, precauciones que se deben tener y sobre todo lecciones practicas para la vida que nos llevan a reflexionar sobre aspectos fundamentales. Este libro cuenta con hermosas fotografias del Camino y tienen codigos QR que se pueden escanear con el tel�fono o la tableta. Tambi�n se encuentra en audio y esto es formidable ya que es narrado en la voz de la autora, con magn�fica entonaci�n asi es mucho mas f�cil entender y al mismo tiempo se puede practicar la pronunciaci�n. La narraci�n del libro es estupenda, el lector se puede identificar con cada experiencia y las confusiones graciosas que ocurren cuando se esta aprendiendo un idioma nuevo. Recomiendo ampliamente este libro como estudiante y futura maestra del idioma, no puede faltar en tu biblioteca, ni en tu material de ense�anza.
