a quick and satisfying read

i've read THE SINGLE DAD'S MARRIAGE WISH as part of another anthology (THE BEST LOVE STORIES OF 2008) and I did enjoy the book even if there were a lot of typos (which is a surprise to me because it's from Harlequin. Don't they have proof readerss?) Anyway, the story is heartwarming and the heroine is a very likeable. Although the hero didn't do much, he is just a "witness" to the unfolding of the Charlotte character. The hero is kinda boring. But the love story is heartfelt. Overall, it's ok because of the deft writing of Carol Marinelli. This is the first book of Marinelli that I've read and definitely won't be the last.

Core Attachment Therapy By Dorothy Derapelian M.Ed., LCMHC (Review)
I am so excited about this book and Ms. Derapelian's amazing work. I have been following her work for about a year, after attending a brief introductory workshop on Core Attachment Therapy. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, specializing in work with children with trauma histories. I am also an advanced trainer of the Nurtured Heart Approach. This pivotal book to me represents the "missing link" for so many of us helping families who's adopted children have been impacted by many traumas, including attachment disruptions. This book is very accessible, respectful, and straight forward. There is no blame, only hope - and more importantly specific methods to foster bonding and attachment in developmental sequence. It addresses the foundations and development of this approach, a simple understanding of the neurobiology underlying trauma and attachment, the phases of attachment, a brief introduction to The Nurtured Heart Approach, and then outlines with vivid descriptions the "Mommy/Daddy" games used in parent-child therapy to stimulate and simulate the attachment process. Therapists (and parents) will see and understand where in the child's development the attachment had been disrupted, and be overjoyed to experience the "repair" taking place. Ms. Derapelian also includes a parent assessment interview, attachment symptom list, a parent journal and a follow up questionnaire, which helps therapists and parents to document successes and improvements (lessening of challenging symptoms). I am so very grateful for this monumental book and work, and look forward to this approach becoming accessible to therapists and parents alike. Love the creativity & knowledge!

I am so thrilled to see this work. In the realm of working with children and youth with attachment challenges, we need all the creativity we can get. Dorothy Derapelian not only weaves in her clear-cut knowledge on the topic, but shares her personal experience in adopting her own daughter which gives her unique insight into facilitating these playful activities. I have personally tested some of the activities myself and have found them very helpful in guiding the parent and child to recreate a bond and move toward healing.

Perhaps the world would change. The Waldorf school, initiated and guided in 1919 by Rudolf Steiner, was conceived with precisely such an end in view.

In this passionate, inspiring, and moving book, Peter Selg, speaks from a deep knowledge of Anthroposophy and from his extensive experience as a child psychiatrist. He returns to the original impulses behind the first Waldorf school to show their continuing validity and how they still respond to what we need.

Wonderful, accessible distillation of Waldorf Education

Dr. Selg has written many wonderful books. This book I find very useful to recommend to individuals interested in learning more about Waldorf education. Reading Steiner's work can be cumbersome for some, and Selg has researched Steiner's work to distill the essence of Waldorf education in this short manuscript. I highly recommend!

Classic Copywriting Guide

John Caples was a pioneer of direct-response copywriting. In Chapter 8 he presents as series of paired ads which were tested, followed by analysis of why the winning ads outperformed. The winner often outperformed the other by a wide margin -- up to five times as many responses.

Caples emphasizes the importance of headlines throughout the book. "If the headline doesn't induce reading, it doesn't matter what the copy says. Because copy that isn't read, can't sell." He suggests starting the body copy by continuing the thought from the headline. "You will never lose a reader in the first paragraph by amplifying the idea which stopped him in the first place."

The author cautions that clever ads tend to underperform because they lose clarity. He observed that "so-called clever ads are sometimes published for products where it is impossible to check sales results from ads."

Caples retired as Creative Director of BBDO in 1982 after 56 years in the advertising business. The world has changed a lot since he wrote this book in 1957. While his ad copy is dated, his focus on copy testing and conversion is as relevant as ever. "Styles may change in advertising, but not the basic principles."

An incredible book that's still relevant

John Caples explains how he came to write his famous ad, "When I sat down at the piano . . ." and many other great little tidbits. He shares how to write effective headlines (make sure they build curiosity and offer a reward.) While I'm a seasoned copywriter and writer, I never tire of reading the masters. And Caples is certainly a member of that honored group.

This book is truly a gem. He discusses ads that worked and those that didn't. He discusses his own mistakes. Not many people would dare to do that. You almost feel you get to know the real John Caples in this book. It's a very honest book.

If you're a copywriter, you need to read it. If you don't, you're missing one of the greatest reads and some of the best lessons you could have. For the price of this book, you'll get a real education.

Highly recommended.

Good information

This book should be required reading for every parent and doctor. Doctors are trained to treat people as long as there's a test to help them diagnose the problem. Beyond that, they really don't receive enough nutrition or preventative training. Dr. Dorfmans book helps you become the advocate your child needs.

A Must Read!!

A colleague recommended this book to me because my 14-month old suffered from multiple ear infections and pneumonia. This book has been a refreshing answer to a prayer I've been praying! I've been fed up with the over medication answer the doctors have provided to me as a solution, always treating the symptoms and not trying to get down to the actual problem. Kelly provides numerous easy to understand case studies backed by clinical evidence. I first got this book on audible and realized I had to get a print copy also. Such a wonderful resource for my family!

Great book!

I thought I read all the important books on nutritional healing after parenting for 23 years! But this one definitely itely presented some new ideas that I found helpful.

I've been dealing with allergies and food sensitivities since I was a teenager so when they showed up in my children (we have 11 kids) I knew what to do. However, my oldest was diagnosed with celiac at age 11 and now my 17 year old son is also. I've also had to implement gluten free eating g for 2 of my children who are intolerant to gluten (not celiac). However, for my 8 year old, the diet hasn't made as much difference as I hoped. He has suffered from SIBO in the past as well. I plan on implementing some new information that I found in this book to see if it helps him.

Confusing at times, mainly one long space battle

Not as good as previous volumes in my opinion, this volume deals mainly with a long space battle, the causes of which are not totally clear. Lots of colour and fighting removes a lot of the person-to-person (being to being!) inter-action which is a shame. However the story is still entertaining and worth a look, especially if you've read the previous volumes.

The best thing about this volume is that it looks as if it's the end of the series, not that I have anything against the series beyond my criticisms above but it doesn't drag on forever as the Invincible series has been.
