AN INTRODUCTORY WATCHTOWER TEXT, WITH EMPHASIS ON 1975

This 1966 publication of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) is of the 5"x7", 380+ page format they favored through the 1960s. It is sparsely illustrated. With an initial pressing of 2,000,000 copies, it was intended for somewhat wide distribution.
Here are some quotations from the book, that often illustrate distinctive doctrines of the WBTS:
"According to this trustworthy Bible chronology six thousand years from man's creation will end in 1975, and the seventh period of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975 C.E." (Pg. 29)
"(I)t is plain that Jesus Christ and his heavenly Father are married to different symbolic women. Thus Jesus Christ and Jehovah God are not the same Person, and they are not coequal members in a 'Trinity' of three Persons in one God." (Pg. 69)
"(Jesus) was not a God-man on earth; he was not part spirit and part man; he was not a hybrid heavenly and earthly creature. He was a pure man, whose life force had been transferred from heaven by the miraculous operation of the spirit (or active force) of almighty God." (Pg. 75)
"Then, too, before the misguided Jews had Jesus Christ killed on the tree, he killed his own self and offered the sacrifice to his apostles. Besides that, when in the future the Christian apostles performed the 'mystery' of transubstantiation and then ate the bread and drank the wine... they were the ones who became 'Christ killers,' and not the Jews whom the Catholics have in past centuries called 'Christ killers'..." It is the custom for a celebration ... of an outstanding event to be held on the anniversary of the event, that is, once a year on the same date, though not on the same day of the week. "However, although the total attendance at all these (Memorial Meal) celebrations is around two million interested persons, less than 12,000 are reported as eating from the loaf of unleavened bread and drinking from the cup of wine... Why do so few, and not all, partake? Those baptized persons who do not partake of the emblematic loaf and wine at the celebration of the Lord's evening meal claim to belong to the 'other sheep'..." "Thus 13,845 of the faithful remnant of the 'little flock' passed off the earthly scene in a manner of seventeen years (1948-1965). It is possible that some baptized Christians were added to the anointed remnant, not to increase the number, but to replace any of them who had proved unfaithful to the heavenly calling and who would therefore leave a vacancy to be filled." "The very expression 'congregation of God' makes it self-evident who rules in it. It is the God of heaven, and not human religious leaders." (Pg. 167)
"It was in the year 1938 that the Christian witnesses of Jehovah of modern days began conforming fully to this theocratic rule among the congregations throughout the earth." (Pg. 181)
"Such neutrality toward the political affairs of this world stands for submission to the will of God, for he does not punish his Christian witnesses for taking this neutral stand. He does, however, let persons in Christendom who violently oppose or rise up in armed rebellion take the punishment that they deserve..." (Pg. 199)

"This 'great crowd' is a separate and distinct group from the 144,000 spiritual Israelites... How many individuals will finally be found in this 'great crowd' we do not know... this innumerable 'great crowd' ought to be far greater than the 144,000... A million would only be 7 times 144,000." "During World War I dedicated Bible students were inclined to think that this world conflict would lead progressively into the battle of Armageddon ... To them the truce and the halt of the war in November of 1918 came as quite a surprise!" (Pg. 358-359)

This book was first introduced at the 1966 regional convention of Jehovah's witnesses.
It covers a wide array of topics that were discussed at that convention.
The most exciting topic (which moved this book like hot cakes)
Was the first time in watchtower history that there was the bold and attractive
declaration that the end of the "system of things" and the millenial reign
of Jesus Christ "should" occur by the autumn of 1975.
It lays the ground work for the watchtowers most recent prophetic embarassment.
